Bridge To God
Have you ever wondered, "Is this all there is to life?" Maybe you've
heard people talk about "eternal life" or "abundant life" and wondered,
how can I experience it? Ultimately it comes back to the issue of
connection to God.
Unfortunately, the original connection that was established when God
created the very first human beings was later broken because of their
disobedience to God, which is called sin. It remains broken for every
person because the Bible says that "all of us have sinned" and that our
sins are what separate us from God. This separation keeps us from living
life at its very best, the way God originally intended it, through a
vital, personal relationship with Him.
Again and again people have tried to bridge the gap between them and God
by doing good things or trying to live a good life. But a question that
always surfaces is, How good is good enough? Many people have even
sought to connect with God through religious rituals. But a question
that comes up here is, Since there are so many to choose from what are
the right rituals? The answers to these questions are a bad news/good
news response.
The bad news is that there is no "good enough" where connection with God
is concerned. He demands perfection when it comes to re-establishing
the connection that was broken between Him and humanity through sin. And
He's not interested in our rituals, which people can carry out
mindlessly without any effect on their lives.
The good news is that God doesn't leave us helpless in our
"dis-connection." He took the initiative to bridge the gap that existed
between us and Him. He did this through His Son Jesus Christ, who lived a
perfect life, died a horrible death on a cross to pay the penalty for
our sins, and after three days was brought back to life again by God.
Unlike all other religions, which focus on things people have to do,
Christianity focuses on what Christ has done.
Because of what Jesus Christ has done you can connect with God and
experience the very best life possible. But this life only comes through
faith: believing what God has said about your problem (sin), trusting
in what Christ has done to correct that problem, asking God to take
control of your life so you can experience life at its very best. In
doing these three things you will begin the journey into real life that
God offers; the life that begins here and now and continues throughout
eternity.
How can you receive this life?
Acknowledge to God that you've sinned, that only He can take care
of your sin problem, and that you don't want to follow your old ways
any longer.
Believe that Jesus died on the cross for your sin and was raised again from death so you could have the very best life possible.
Claim God as the Master (Lord) of your life. To receive this
incredible gift, all you have to do is talk to God in prayer. Say
something similar to these words (but believe them as you say them): God,
I am a sinner and in need of your forgiveness. I believe Jesus died on
the cross for my sins. I accept your gift of forgiveness and life, and I
ask you to come into my life and take control of it. Amen.
